Bangor Student Society of Change Ringers

Practice: Monday 19:00 and Thursday 19:30

Croeso i Gymdeithas Canu Clychau Myfyrwyr Bangor! Welcome to the Bangor Student Society of Change Ringers (BSSCR)!

Whether you’re an experienced ringer or have never touched a bell rope before, all are welcome to join us and give bell ringing a go. We practice every week at St Tegai’s, Llandegai (a short distance from Bangor), and at St. Mary & St Nicholas’ Church, Beaumaris. So even though Bangor has lost its bells – there’s still plenty of ringing! Alongside these practice nights we regularly organise an exciting range of other ringing opportunities, including quarter peals and ringing trips to towers across North Wales.

Two of the biggest highlights of our academic year are our Annual Outing (hosted over a weekend in Term 2) and our joint ringing away day with the Aberystwyth University bell ringers. This takes place during the annual Bangor–Aberystwyth Varsity competitions.

The most recent iteration of BSSCR was re-established in 2022, and since then we’ve gone from strength to strength, with many of our current student members having learnt to ring after moving to Bangor. That said, with the help of our local ringing friends, many of which are Bangor University Alumni, we regularly ring a great variety of surprise minor methods at our practice nights.

To get to practice, the student ringers usually car share over from Bangor to both our Beaumaris and Llandegai practice nights. But alternatively, there are regular buses to both Beaumaris and Llandegai – with Llandegai being less than 10mins travel from Bangor’s main bus station. If you’d like to join us, drop us a message and you’d be welcome to come along! We’re also happy to help with lifts over to our practices!
